K.I.S.S.( KEEP IT SIMPLE SKIERS) METHOD OF SKI WAXING

(1) Clean base with wax remover.

(2) Apply structure to ski base: At temps < 5° F use a metal scraper, 5° F to 30°F use a fine to medium brass brush, and at temps >30° F use a medium to coarse brass, copper or steel brush. Reduce time and effort by using Speed Wheels to create structure and remove the fine hairs.

(3) Fiber Tec the base to remove fine hairs produced when structuring base.

(4) Rub or drip wax on skis. Start by rubbing (crayoning) wax on ski to conserve wax and spread it evenly over the ski base. Avoid touching hot iron to a dry ski base as this may seal the wax absorbing pores.

(5) Iron wax on skis. Iron temperature should be just hot enough to melt wax. A smoking iron is too hot!. Keep the iron moving. If the iron is left in one spot you may overheat your ski base. Spend about one to three minutes ironing soft, warm temperature waxes into a ski base. Melt hard cold temperature waxes just enough to form an even coat on ski.

(6) Scrape off wax with a plastic scraper while base is still a little warm (This will reduce waxing time). Hold scraper firmly in front of you with both hands. Use your little fingers to guide the plastic scraper as you push it from tip to tail. Thick plastic scrapers are less likely to bend and work best when sharp with a clean edge that is free of nicks or burs.

(7) Brush with a plastic bristle brush. Remove excess wax from the surface of the ski base. You only want the wax that is absorbed in ski base. It takes a lot of brushing to do a proper job. Spend about five minutes vigorously brushing each ski with lots of pressure and always brush from ski tip to tail. Speed Brushes will reduce the time is takes to buff your skis and is much easier . Note page 14 for brush selection. (You may reduce waxing time and wear on brushes by bushing while the base is still a little warm. This will not only reduce your time in the wax room your ski will also be faster because you will remove superfial wax better.)

(8) Polish base with Speed Buff. Apply fluoro wax with iron to skis at this time. Fluoro waxes are then buffed into a ski base, not scraped. The Speed Buff absorbs excess fluoro waxes while working your pure fluoro waxes into the structure of your race skis. Once you have used the Speed Buff several times, the excess fluoro wax absorbed by the buffer could be transferred to your ski base for short races up to 10KM.
